During the holidays, there are so many moments that you want to record in your scrapbook pages. To make this process a little easier, consider creating custom borders that you can make in advance or while you are scrapbooking. Lauren created this cute layout capturing her daughter’s first Christmas using borders and accents she created herself using the Joyous Noel by Katie Pertiet collection. Keep reading for tips and ideas from Lauren.
Here are the supplies that I worked with:
Let’s walk through what I did.
The base for the layout is a Creme Linen Refill Page, but you can use any color you want. I started by creating the border for the right side. I used a 2″ strip of red cardstock and punched it with the Pinking Edge Ribbon Design Cartridge and the Border Maker System. Then I cut a 5/8″ wide strip from the gold plaid cardstock and thread it through the red border. Such a fun way to make a custom border for my layout!
Once it the border was ready, I adhered it to the right side so the pinked edge was about 1/2″ from the edge. I then cut a piece of the red plaid cardstock (a 4 1/2″ wide piece) and adhered it along the edge of the pinked border. Next up is the ever so elegant border strip with the holly at the top and gold ribbon down the middle. I adhered it so it overlapped where the pinked border and red plaid paper met. I then moved on to the photos. I matted one with a green journal card (but you can pick any color that matches your photo) and then trimmed two photos to 4″ squares.
Now for some fun. The word border strips are great as is or you can cut them into smaller pieces and use the sayings/words to create titles or journaling. There are two word border strips in the Joyous Noel collection so pick the one that works best for your layout and trim a few sayings/words from the strip and adhere them to you page using Foam Mounting Squares to give them a little lift off the page.
For an additional accent on the page, I used a sticker from last year’s Christmas Joy Accent Stickers. I also created a custom accent by punching a small piece of green cardstock using the Pine Tree Design Cartridge that I cut to include three trees. I adhered these to the page using Foam Mounting Squares.
The final step on the layout was the title and journaling. I used the Calligraphy Pen to write my title. This pen makes calligraphy a piece of cake! I then added my journaling and the page was complete.
Don’t you love how the custom border and accent make the page? And the best part, I can create these in advance so they are ready when I sit down to create my page or do it on the fly.
