Custom Borders and Journal Cards

June 15, 2016

Most days I’m all about getting things done, including scrapbooking. But I also have times when it is fun to slow down and be creative, change things up a bit. That was the case when I created these borders and journal cards using the Red, White, & Beautiful by Katie Pertiet collection.

I think this border strip is one of my favorites so I knew that I wanted to enhance it with a punched border. The Star Party Design Cartridge with it stars and scallop was perfect! I used Classic Navy Solid Color Cardstock and saved the stars that are punched from the border and then randomly adhered those stars to the border strip. I love how this border turned out!

This border strip shows how versatile this collection is. The bright colors are wonderful for party pages and the Balloon Design Cartridge punched a fun border to add to this border. I used Classic Red Solid Color Cardstock for the balloons and layered two pocket border strips – the red, blue, and light blue circle border strip over the light blue polka dot border strip. Once I had the balloons adhered, I used my black Micron pen to add swirly strings to each balloon. So much fun!

For some reason I typically don’t mess with the journal cards, but I thought it would be fun to dress up a couple. This first one uses the Scallop Shell Design Cartridge with the red plaid designer cardstock. The cardstock reminds me of a summer BBQ tablecloth especially with the scallop border. I adhered it to the bottom of the dark blue journal card that has a faint triangle design in it. The dark blue in the cardstock really stands out when paired with the journal card.

Finally, I had all those cute stars from the border I punched and I hated to throw them away, so I randomly adhered them to the kraft journal card. I really like the simplicity of this journal card, but those stars just make this so festive!

What borders or journal cards have you dressed up recently? I challenge you to play a little and stretch those creative genes. You never know what you’ll come up with.

Have fun creating!
